"How do we limit the potential harm AI may bring through fostering inaccurate news, addiction, and division in our culture?"
=====
"It was once a virtue for Americans to say, when asked about their politics, “None of your damn business.”
Nobody thinks that way anymore, either. Young people especially are worried to the point of mental illness about their likes and ratios. We not only want people to know what we think, we’re terrified of people not knowing what we think, lest we be suspected of harboring something unsavory underneath.
This is how it is for Americans trying to be themselves now. First they became addicted to the Internet as a tool of convenience. Then it became a cheap substitute for real-life interaction. Finally they learned to submit to the wisdom of crowds, which on the Internet, as we also found out, is really an artificial representation of a crowd, generated by political and social engineers from the FBI, DHS, the Pentagon, Meta, Google, and other bureaucracies. These groups are letting loose algorithms on that “Spirit of liberty” Justice Hand talked about. The results have not been good."
Anyone want to discuss this at the next 'fill in the blank' AI ummit?

"Will this new movement lead to a world of greater WISDOM and COMPASSION … or to a world of greater ADDICTION and ISOLATION?"
The presence of iPhones and our array of 'devices' we each have, has already more than amply demonstrated exactly what our tendency as humans is, consistently - separation from nature, each other, and even ourselves, but too hypnotized by what's on our screens to realize it - or honestly care, even if we do realize it.
"Are the leaders of AI thinking about this?"
From this chair, it looks like lip service only - they are all too giddy about the money, the power, and the 'shiny thing' of mystical technology to honestly care!!
"What are the possibilities in health care, awareness practices, and well-being that AI may be able to support?"
Even AI can figure this out - IF ONLY WE WOULD ACT ON IT:
"How do we limit the potential harm AI may bring through fostering inaccurate news, addiction, and division in our culture?"
Technology has NEVER been truly limited from doing harm, and ALWAYS for the same reason:
“There is one human story. Dressed in new clothing and using new tools, we endlessly relive it. If we read philosophy, literature, history, poetry, and theology – we see greed, hedonism, and hubris easily defeat empathy and reason.” – The Last Act of the Human Comedy – Chris Hedges
“The most important point to be made here is that as long as we remain egocentric beings, there shall always be sociopaths and psychopaths among us, who inevitably rise to authority driven by selfishness, greed, and apathy – who then capsize their entire sphere of influence despite the best intentions of all the rest of us. This perpetual cycle can only continue its descent until we undergo the spiritual and cultural transformation available by transmuting the egocentricity at its root.” – The Everyone Project
