Dear Friends,
There is something amazing and easily overlooked about every moment of our life … there is always “the next moment.”
The most delicious meal, the greatest sex, the best vacation, the most intriguing conversation ... and then it ends, and there is “the next moment.”
The next moment is the moment when what we look forward to ends, and it is just us with ourselves.
It is interesting to explore: how are we with the next moment?
Do we quickly try to plan another trip or meal? Or can we just be in that moment as it is, without anything special needing to happen?
How we relate to the next moment tells us a lot; it allows us to see when nothing is happening, what our resting place is … and if our resting place is constant stimuli, we miss our life.
We are always planning something, continually running from “the next moment.”
Making Friends with the Next Moment
The more we can make friends with “the next moment,” and see that our happiness comes from within, the more we can shift from “what is happening out there” to “what is happening in here.”
After the great vacation or trip, there is the return … did it change us? Maybe, but then we are back at our house, maybe with a few new clothes and memories, but nothing of real importance has changed. The next moment always arrives.
As we learn to make friends with the next moment, it is a great reminder of where life is really to be lived. It comes from within.
The next moment says, “Have whatever experiences you wish; in the end, it is all about how you are with yourself.”
Hope to see you at an upcoming in-person or virtual event soon. See below.
Blessings.

This is supplementary to what I read some years ago that has supported my being courageous. Stewart Brand was on a book tour, concerned about how stiff he was in television interviews. Peter Coyote told him to shift his focus: "It's not what you do; it's what you do next." You don’t need to control the moment cause there’s always the next moment to make up for it!
