The Take Away
Dear Friends,
There is a natural beauty—an inherent perfection—within each of us.
As Stephen Levine put it, “We are not trying to be perfect, we are trying to find that within us that is perfection.”
Of course, there may be layers of trauma and pain covering this. But like the sun on a cloudy day, it is still there.
The Challenge
We tend to look for this innate beauty in conditions or in “form,” either physical or mental.
Physical Forms: We believe that if our body looks a certain way, or if we acquire enough things, we’ll finally be able to access it.
We think more possessions will do it.
Thought Forms: Or we seek it through thought forms. We might believe, “I am not a success,” and assume that if we could replace it with “I am a success,” we would finally be happy.
We just need to create a new mental story.
The Take Away
Of course, physical and mental conditions matter. Having stability such as money and a comfortable home can improve life, as does a healthy mindset.
But if we are not careful, both can easily take us away from something quite profound and less obvious:
This present moment as it is; “the inherent” that is always here.
Lost and Gained
When we forget this, we lose ourselves in ..
What we’ve accomplished—or not.
What we’ve acquired—or not.
The story of ourselves as a success—or not.
The Spiritual Path
The beauty of the spiritual path is that no matter how life is appearing in the world of form, the access to what matters, to a timeless dimension, is here, always.
It has nothing to do with our possessions or accomplishments or a story.
We can then play with and enjoy various forms, be it money or houses or fame, but at the same time, we know the deeper level of existence.
As the world presents its share of challenges (as it will) and the conditions in our life are not at times what we had hoped, we can inquire, “Is there a beauty present here as well?”
Then we listen.
Fortunately, this access requires no change of clothes, new purchases, or status upgrades. It was embedded in us at birth, if not before.
Blessings,
SOREN

Thank you for this beautiful reminder of where to focus our gaze. I'm about to begin a seed round of fundraising for a new company I've created, and it's easy to have concerns about whether it will be successful and how it will feel if it doesn't meet my expectations. After reading your article, I said to myself, "I'm successful because I tried, and I've learned so much in the process. Let it unfold as it is destined to be and stay present." Much gratitude!
