Maybe The Moment Knows
Dear Friends,
If we are right about anything, it is how wrong we often are.
“This is the way life will be, I know it,” we tend to think … and then life does what life does, without regard for our beliefs.
Remember when computer science was the “safe degree”? Program after program tried to get kids into science and technology.
Then AI came.
And now people like Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang tell young people, “Do not learn to code.”
The Truth Is We Do Not Know
It’s not just career advice that does this.
I find myself often planning for a future moment, thinking:
“In this future moment, I will ….” Or “The next time I see this person, I will tell him ….”
Makes sense, but there is one very significant problem: we are not in that moment yet.
How can we know what a moment needs when we are not yet in it?
Maybe The Moment Knows
I like to say: “I do not know what a future moment needs, but I trust the moment knows.”
My job, then, is simple: Get out of my way; focus on my capacity to be present and to listen. (Simple, but not at all easy.)
So if we do not know what a future moment will be, maybe that is not a problem. Possibly the moment will know if we are present enough to hear it.
Of course, we have various thoughts and stories about the future, and we need to make plans, but in the end, only the moment knows.
Blessings,
SOREN
