"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you."
– Anne Lamott
Dear Friends,
If we wanted to pick one area that has most impacted society the past decade it may be this: Screens now run our lives.
According to one study:
Adults check their phones 352 times a day – once every two minutes and 43 seconds
This is not wrong per se, but it presents challenges to our sleep, our focus, our stress levels, and our time in nature.
In fact, some of the world’s smartest minds powered with the most advanced AI technology have one focus:
Get and keep our attention on their platform for as long as they can.
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt may have said it best recently:
“The industry is optimized to maximize your attention, and monetize it.”
THE SERIES
Our January Donation-Based series is titled Digital Detox: Reconnect with What Matters Most.
In a world where constant notifications, emails, and scrolling dominate our daily lives, it’s easy to lose touch with the present moment.
We need resets.
A digital detox isn’t about rejecting technology—it’s about creating space to rediscover balance, clarity, and connection.
“Taking a break from your devices is not about rejection; it’s about reflection.”
— Arianna Huffington
THE MONTH
In this series, each week we will offer new videos on that week’s invitation:
Spending the first hour and last hour a day in non-digital activities
Removing apps from your phone
Taking a break from social media
Turning off notifications … And much more.
(Don’t worry. You can always add things back later)
Of course, we all need to use and benefit from technology, but we also need balance.
The focus is to have the month of January as a New Year Digital Reset and nurture our analog life in the context of modern life. We will learn together.
